The Community College of Qatar’s campus was inaugurated on Jan. 17, 2011.
Dr. Mary S. Spangler, HCC Chancellor, and Deputy Chancellor Dr. Art Tyler attended the inauguration in Doha, Qatar.
The Community College of Qatar (CCQ), under the auspices of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), selected Houston Community College (HCC) to develop the community college model to meet the educational needs of Qatar under the educational reform initiatives of the Qatari government. HCC was chosen from among eight U.S. community colleges to develop a custom curriculum and institute a fully operational community college by the fall of 2010.

Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Saad bin Ibrahim al-Mahmoud, who is also the SEC secretary general, CCQ project director Dr Ibrahim al-Naimi, dean Dr Judith Hansen, CCQ’s partner institution Houston Community College chancellor Dr Mary S Spangler, deputy chancellor Arthur Tyler and American Association of Community Colleges former president and CEO Dr George Boggs were among those present. Supreme Education Council: CCQ provides access to higher education

Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser inaugurated the new campus of the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) near the Abu Obaidah Bin Al-Jarrah Mosque in Doha. HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), ministers, sheikhs and several high level dignitaries from the government, international and local experts, SEC officials and parents attended the ceremony.
“The launch of the Community College of Qatar which opened its doors to the first students in September 2010 is aligned with the vision to translate the goals of the nation’s education initiative – Education for a New Era,” said HE Al Mahmoud during his speech at the event. “It is an educational institution which provides higher education and optional educational opportunities for continuous education. DOHA: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser yesterday [Jan. 17, 2011] inaugurated the new campus of the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) in Doha, as a further move to provide students with collegiate studies and critical job training to meet the educational and labour market needs in Qatar.
The first of its kind in Qatar, CCQ offers courses that lead to the Associate Degree besides short-term certificates, training courses and specialized training programs that meet the needs of a particular sector of the labor market and industry.
