HCC Northeast commemorated Cinco de Mayo 2012 with a variety of activities and events on campus and in the community. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla.
Leading up to the occasion, the HCC Northeast Mexican American Youth Organization (MAYO) hosted celebrations at the Northeast, Northline and Pinemont campuses. Students celebrated the occasion with food, prizes, entertainment, and a traditional Mexican attire contest.
On the morning of Cinco de Mayo, HCC trustees Eva Loredo and Mary Ann Perez, students from the HCC Northeast MAYO, as well as others from HCC participated in the 18th Annual League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Cinco de Mayo parade. The event, which took place in downtown Houston, attracted thousands throughout the city to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture.
That afternoon, HCC Northeast representatives were present at the 3rd Annual Northline Commons Cinco de Mayo Celebration. The Northline Commons celebration consisted of a variety of vendors, entertainment, resources and activities for all ages. HCC Northeast hosted an information booth at the event.
