Houston Community College celebrated its 40th graduating class at Reliant Stadium. The event began at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012. More than 5,000 students received associate degrees, certificates or their GED from HCC this year. Houston Community College participated in the 18th Annual LULAC Cinco de Mayo parade Saturday, May 5, 2012. The event commemorates the Mexican’s victory at the Battle of Puebla. Houston Community College takes part in 2012 March Of Dimes event
Houston Community College is a proud partner of the March of Dimes, an organization dedicated to helping moms have full-term pregnancies and researching the problems that threaten the health of babies. Each year, every college in the HCC system raises funds to donate to the March of Dimes cause, in addition to participating in the annual March for Babies event. Houston Community College cycling team hits the road for MS150
The HCC cycling team of students, faculty and staff teamed up with CenterPoint and participated in the BP MS150 bicycle tour April 21-22. The BP MS150 is a two-day bicycle tour that travels from Houston to Austin and raises donations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Total distance covered is approximately 160 miles. The team includes students Fred Barnes, Thomas Brink, Marcus Gary and Melissa Hatch; faculty and staff members Felix Arrellano, Felicia Denman, Jesus Martinez and Carlos Villacis. HCC and Brazil announce partnership to build workforce
Houston Community College, in partnership with US-Brazil Connect, the National Industrial Apprenticeship Service of Brazil (SENAI), and Social Service for Industry of Brazil (SESI) recently announced a new workforce training initiative: the US-Brazil Partnership for Skills. The Partnership will create opportunities for U.S. community college students interested in science and technology careers to participate in intensive study and immersion in Brazil. Minority Male Initiative presents Health & Wellness Conference at Coleman College
The Minority Male Initiative presented a Health & Wellness Conference at Coleman College for Health Sciences on Saturday, April 14 from 9 to 12:30. The 100 Black Men Metropolitan Chapter of Houston and the Coleman College for Health Sciences were co-sponsors of this event. Approximately 100 students and family members learned about health careers and program offerings at HCC. The attendees also participated in interactive sessions stressing the importance of healthy eating and exercise for healthy living. HCC Trustee Carroll G. Robinson chairs the Minority Male Initiative Board Committee.
HCC Northwest men’s basketball team competes in national intramurals
UPDATE: Kudos go out to the HCC HCC Northwest’s men’s basketball intramural team. They played well in a national collegiate competition sponsored by American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS) this weekend. In pool play, our team lost game one to UNC-Pembroke Stacked 42-39, but won the second game 65-53 against Rutgers University. With the win over Rutgers, our team earned a spot in the bracket play (playoffs). Our HCC team beat UNC-Pembroke Wendy's All-Americans 53-45 in overtime which earned them a spot in the Elite 8. A successful Simulation Day 2012 for HCC Coleman
More than 800 HCC Coleman College students participated in Simulation Day 2012 on Wednesday, March 28. A one-of-a-kind event in the Texas Medical Center, Simulation Day is an intensive day designed to allow HCC Coleman College students to engage, inspire, sharpen and demonstrate their clinical patient care skills through the use of interdisciplinary scenarios. HCC students and faculty participated in the 13th Annual Cesar Chavez Parade on Saturday, March 31. The parade proceeded north on Chavez Boulevard, turned east on Ave Q/JW Peavey and ended at Hidalgo Park where there was a short presentation by local politicians at the Gazebo.
