About the Partnership: Beginning in June 2001, the Saigon Institute of Information Technology (Saigon Tech) entered into an affiliation with Houston Community College (HCC) to jointly offer designated courses for HCC credit that would apply to the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees in Information Technologies. The agreement was subsequently updated in July 2003 and again in July 2007, the latter one extending the partnership to include Business Technology programs as well.
The affiliation agreement contractually commits Saigon Tech to deliver specific courses under HCC guidelines pertaining to course content, level of instruction, faculty qualifications, the library and other support services, and the environment in which instruction takes place. Under the agreement, Saigon Tech may then award students credit for such courses on an HCC transcript.
Houston Community College (HCC) is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of HCC.
HCC first applied to SACSCOC for a substantive change to its accreditation status in September 2002 to recognize its affiliation with Saigon Tech. A SACSCOC visit to Saigon Tech and two monitoring reports by HCC followed before the official approval by SACSCOC of the substantive change occurred in July 2005. In November 2007 SACS approved the expansion of the HCC-Saigon Tech affiliation to include selected Business programs.
SACSCOC will send another committee to Saigon Tech in April 2012 to review and ensure that both HCC and Saigon Tech are complying with all of the necessary principles.
