Northwest College Professor Steven Woodland (Management/Logistics/Global Supply Chain/International Business Faculty) is planning a short-term study abroad tour to Brazil. The Houston Community College group is scheduled to leave on December 28, 2012, and return on January 4, 2013.

The 2012 winter tour group totaled 23 travelers consisting of 16 HCC students, three University of Houston students, and four HCC faculty members. The cultural and business environments in London, Paris and Rome were discussed and experienced as the tour was the practical classroom.

Houston Community College's Office of International Initiatives is facilitating Sociology 2389 (Study Abroad to Vietnam) this summer. Houston Community College students and faculty members are traveling to Vietnam as part of the program and will be blogging during the trip.

Program

The Salzburg Global Seminar is an independent, non-governmental organization with a Board of Directors drawn from diverse regions, backgrounds and fields of expertise. It seeks in its faculty, fellows and staff people of the highest intellectual and leadership capacity from around the world and from all sectors of society, and attempts to benefit from their breadth of experience and perspective across the full range of its work. The Office of International Initiatives spearheaded the 5th annual search for the most talented students and faculty members to participate in the 2012 International Study Programs 53 and 54 of the Salzburg Global Seminar in Salzburg, Austria.

Candidates are required to be interested in developing an understanding of global issues, solving problems and unexpected challenges, also embracing opportunities with enthusiasm. Additionally, they must have excellent communication skills and enjoy working in multicultural teams.

A cohort of six HCC students was selected by HCC College Presidents and attended the International Study Program 53 from May 30 to June 6, 2012. Selected student ambassadors enrolled in GOVT 2389 with Prof. John Speer. OII pre-departure meetings and blog entries are mandated.

A cohort of three HCC faculty members was selected by a committee formed by previous faculty ambassadors and the executor director of OII. Selected faculty ambassadors attended the International Study Program 54 from July 8 to 15, 2012. OII pre-departure meetings and blog entries are mandated.
