Houston Community College (HCC) partnered with The Gulf Coast Community Services Association (GCCSA) to provide scholarships and career training to low-income resident of the Gulf Coast area. As of April 2012, more than $530,000 in scholarship money was awarded 300 HCC students, who studied 23 different certificate areas ranging from Accelerated Teacher to online, business, health, construction, transportation and IT. By Simone Small, Staff Writer, Division of Extended Learning Houston Community College’s Commercial Truck Driving Training program received a Department of Transportation (DoT) Safety Training grant for $175,529.00 that will help put Houston to work. This training program is designed to assist people who live in underserved communities as well as individuals who are unemployed or under-employed. With the grant’s assistance, HCC will prepare 45 students for careers as well-qualified commercial truck drivers using instructional materials and methods that emphasize safety principles. Houston Community College received a $1 million dollar grant Houston Community College received a $1 million dollar grant to train health information technology specialists thanks to The Community College Consortia to Educate Health Information Technology Professionals. PDMS is used predominantly by offshore and petrochemical design industries.
