Welcome from the Board Chair
Dear HCC Family,
It is an honor to be serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees as Houston Community College begins this year-long celebration in recognition of our 40th Anniversary. In these past 40 years HCC has made a tremendous contribution to our community, and touched and affected the lives of so many.
Houston Community College is today a recognized fixture in this city. We are respected throughout the world for our outstanding programs, renowned faculty, and high quality curriculum, as well as for our modern and technologically advanced facilities that enable our students to acquire the academic preparation and workforce skills necessary to compete at the highest level in the marketplace.
It is hard to believe that this institution with 6 colleges, 54 facilities and more than 75,000 students began as a subset of the Houston Independent School District, holding evening classes in local high schools.
This growth and these accomplishments are due in no small part to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our former board members. We stand on your shoulders and are grateful that each of you cared enough to make a difference.
This program booklet provides a snapshot of our journey as well as an overview of some of our greatest achievements. This luncheon is just a small way for us to say thank you for the foundation you laid and the unwavering support you have given HCC over the past forty years.
Thank you elected officials for your support, and thank you former and current Trustees and Foundation Board Members for the work you have done to help shape Houston Community College into the distinguished institution that it is today.
Sincerely,
Richard Schechter
